Best PS5 RPG games: quick comparison

Best action RPG: Elden Ring

Elden Ring is the strongest recommendation for players who enjoy exploration, difficult combat, experimentation and a world that does not constantly tell you where to go. At KSh 5,200, it also sits below several newer premium RPG releases. It is not the right first RPG for everyone, however: players who dislike difficult combat may enjoy Final Fantasy, The Witcher 3 or Hogwarts Legacy more.

Best story-focused RPG: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth at KSh 6,500 is a better fit for players who value characters, cinematic storytelling, party-based combat and a carefully structured journey. It is very different from Elden Ring despite both being labeled RPGs, which is why choosing by genre sub-type matters.

Best open-world RPG value: The Witcher 3

The Witcher 3 at KSh 4,800 remains one of the strongest value recommendations for players who want a large fantasy world, quests, mature storytelling and many hours of content. It fits under the KSh 5,000 budget and can offer far more play time than some newer full-price games.

Best sci-fi RPG: Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 at KSh 6,150 combines a futuristic setting, open-world exploration, quests and character development. It is a natural recommendation for players who prefer technology, firearms and a dense city over swords and fantasy landscapes.

Best RPG under KSh 5,000

The Witcher 3, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Lords of the Fallen, Hogwarts Legacy and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot all fall below KSh 5,000 in the current catalogue. This makes RPGs one of the best categories for budget shoppers who want long campaigns.

Best RPG for loot and builds: Diablo IV

Diablo IV is better for players who enjoy repeatedly improving a character, collecting gear and experimenting with builds. Its appeal is different from a narrative-first RPG because progression and combat loops are central to the experience.

Best RPG for anime fans

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot at KSh 4,250 is an accessible option for players who already love Dragon Ball. It mixes familiar characters and story moments with RPG progression and action combat without demanding the same difficulty as a Soulslike.

Best Soulslike alternatives

If Elden Ring appeals to you, Lords of the Fallen is another lower-cost Soulslike option at KSh 4,500. Black Myth: Wukong at KSh 8,000 is a premium action-RPG choice for players willing to spend more. Rise of the Ronin offers another action-heavy route with a historical setting.

Which RPG should you buy?

• Challenge and exploration: Elden Ring.
• Story and characters: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
• Fantasy open world: The Witcher 3.
• Sci-fi: Cyberpunk 2077.
• Loot and builds: Diablo IV.
• Budget Soulslike: Lords of the Fallen.
• Anime: Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.
• Urban character-driven RPG: Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

PS5 RPG buying tips

RPGs can be long, so choose a world and combat style you genuinely enjoy. Check whether the game is action-based, turn-based or hybrid, how difficult it is, whether online features matter and whether you are comfortable committing dozens of hours. A game offering 80 hours is only good value if you actually enjoy those 80 hours.
