Lenovo T460s vs T470s Kenya: Which Older ThinkPad Is Worth Buying?

Infinite Tech Kenya · Updated October 2026. Lenovo T460s vs T470s Kenya: Which Older ThinkPad Is Worth Buying? This guide uses distinct published laptop specifications and current listed prices to help Kenyan shoppers compare real purchase choices. It is not represented as a hands-on laboratory review.

Summary: which laptop makes more sense?

With identical displayed prices, inspect both and choose the unit with the soundest hinges, battery and screen. Do not claim a T470s is eighth generation unless Windows System Information confirms an appropriate processor—which would warrant checking the model identification itself.

Key differences that affect your purchase

Processor and exact SKU

The T460s and T470s are 14-inch ThinkPad T-series business laptops with similar typing-oriented designs. A larger model number does not automatically describe a newer Intel generation on refurbished stock.

RAM, storage and software

The linked T460s clearly belongs to the sixth-generation Core i5 era. T470s variants can carry different sixth- or seventh-generation chips, so verify the exact CPU SKU instead of applying the supplier’s ‘8th Gen T470s’ wording.

Display, ports and practical use

Both linked store entries currently have the same KSh 21,500 price and the same 8GB/256GB storage headline. That puts unusual weight on actual panel quality, battery wear and chassis condition.

Used-device condition and support

Their processor generations are older than the normal officially supported Windows 11 Intel Core baseline. A shopper expecting many years of supported Windows should consider a newer ThinkPad T480s or T490s rather than buying only on price.

Which one should a Kenyan buyer actually choose?

With identical displayed prices, inspect both and choose the unit with the soundest hinges, battery and screen. Do not claim a T470s is eighth generation unless Windows System Information confirms an appropriate processor—which would warrant checking the model identification itself. For an office employee, think in terms of Excel, email, conferencing, portability and durability. For a student, consider whether learning software runs on officially supported Windows, how much local storage is needed and whether a touchscreen or pen really adds value.

Heavy workloads—CAD, gaming, video rendering or advanced machine-learning tasks—need requirements checked separately. A normal business convertible is not automatically a dedicated-GPU workstation, even when the CPU badge says Core i7.

Five practical tests before checkout

1. Confirm processor: capture the exact CPU SKU in Settings → System → About, and validate it against the manufacturer’s model-family specification.
2. Confirm memory and storage: verify installed RAM and total usable SSD space, and ask whether the RAM is soldered or socketed.
3. Inspect the screen: test brightness, dead pixels, hinges, webcam, keyboard, touch response and any stylus where relevant.
4. Run a battery report: use powercfg /batteryreport to compare full-charge versus design capacity. Review the report in context rather than promising hours of runtime.
5. Check platform security and warranty: verify Windows 11 eligibility through Microsoft PC Health Check plus TPM/firmware and obtain written refurbished warranty/return details.

Frequently asked questions

Which is newer: T460s or T470s?

T470s belongs to the following model series, but processor SKU varies by configuration.

Are both good for Office and typing?

A healthy machine in either series can support basic local office tasks, with Windows security limitations to address.

Are the two compared units priced the same?

Yes; both matched Infinite Tech listings show KSh 21,500 at the audit.

Can T470s be assumed to be an eighth-generation laptop?

No. Typical T470s use earlier-generation Intel processors; verify actual CPU details.

Are these actual checked-in stock quantities?

No. Published WooCommerce price and configuration are shown; verify the supplier’s physical stock and warranty with Infinite Tech before ordering.

What must I inspect on a refurbished laptop?

Check CPU identification, display pixels and touch input where stated, SSD health, RAM capacity, Wi-Fi, hinges, keyboard and battery report.

Can I still rely on Windows 10 updates?

Normal Windows 10 support ended on 14 October 2025. Windows 11 compatibility or appropriate Microsoft Extended Security Updates should be considered.

Is a higher model number always a better purchase?

No. Refurbished laptop value also depends on exact processor, RAM, screen, battery condition, accessories and shop warranty.
