iPhone 17 Pro Max vs iPhone 18 Pro in Kenya: Bigger Screen or Newer Camera?

These two phones cross generations and sizes. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is the larger flagship from 2025; the iPhone 18 Pro is the more compact premium handset from 2026. They compete for buyers who have around KSh 180,000–190,000 and want the most useful handset for work, shooting content or travel. Neither is the universal winner.

How the devices differ

Two prices, two different buying priorities

At the supplier-based Infinite Tech prices, the 17 Pro Max 256GB Silver Physical SIM is KSh 179,995. The 18 Pro 256GB Burgundy Physical SIM is KSh 189,995, a KSh 10,000 premium. These are different finishes, so the figures show a genuine choice but not a same-colour comparison. The 18 Pro Glacier 256GB eSIM option is KSh 174,995 and cannot be treated as physically identical to a nano-SIM version. Buyers who must keep a physical SIM should compare the physical-SIM quotes, not the lowest headline prices.

Choose size first: a 6.9-inch Max or 6.3-inch Pro

The larger 17 Pro Max is more comfortable for reviewing images, reading spreadsheets, editing timelines and watching long videos. It takes more pocket space and can be tiring for one-handed use. The 18 Pro is easier to reach across and stow away, while still offering Apple’s 120Hz ProMotion screen and high brightness. If your phone is your main laptop replacement, choose the bigger canvas. If you commute and handle a phone one-handed throughout Nairobi, the compact Pro makes sense.

Camera innovation versus familiar Pro versatility

Both phones have sophisticated wide, ultra-wide and telephoto systems. The 18 Pro’s variable aperture gives photographers additional choices for light capture and depth of field, alongside newer pro recording controls. It is particularly attractive when creating controlled product photography and event video. The 17 Pro Max still offers a capable three-camera system; its 6.9-inch screen can also make composition and review easier. Avoid assuming the 18 Pro wins every image without a scene-by-scene comparison.

Apple’s maximum playback claims depend on test configuration and are not measured local 5G runtime. The 17 Pro Max’s larger chassis may suit those prioritising endurance, but check hardware and battery condition before buying a particular imported unit.

Our recommendation

• Buy 17 Pro Max if you want a large display and 256GB Silver at the lower physical-SIM price.
• Buy 18 Pro if you value the latest A20 Pro and variable-aperture photography in a smaller phone.
• Verify the region whenever the SIM tray matters; both eSIM and physical-SIM versions are sold in different markets.
• Budget for accessories and check whether the quoted device is activated, sealed and covered by a supported warranty.
