WHOOP 4.0 vs 5.0 vs MG: Kenya Upgrade Guide
Updated 31 October 2026. WHOOP owners upgrading from 4.0 face two separate decisions: whether newer hardware is worth it, and which membership tier best fits their use. WHOOP 5.0 and MG were introduced in 2025; the newer generation materially improved battery life, but some accessory replacements are mandatory.

Hardware comparison
| Feature | WHOOP 4.0 | WHOOP 5.0 | WHOOP MG |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer-rated battery | About 5 days | 14+ days | 14+ days |
| Size | Previous generation | About 7% smaller | Next-generation MG |
| ECG hardware | No | No | Yes, subject to region/tier |
| 4.0 bands | Compatible | Not compatible | Not compatible |
What improves with WHOOP 5.0?
WHOOP’s official 5.0 support materials describe a more compact body, revised optical sensing, improved movement tracking and significantly longer battery life. WHOOP 5.0 is screen-free like 4.0 and still focuses on recovery, sleep and training rather than notification-heavy smartwatch use.
WHOOP 4.0 users do not necessarily have to upgrade immediately: the manufacturer has described continued support for the older generation. The upgrade is more compelling when charging every few days is inconvenient or when a new membership term comes with eligible hardware.
MG is not a magic medical upgrade for Kenya
WHOOP MG has additional hardware intended for Life-only Heart Screener and Blood Pressure Insights features. ECG and irregular-heart-rhythm notifications are regulated and Kenya is not on the published approved list. Blood Pressure Insights is a non-diagnostic wellness estimate with setup and eligibility requirements. Buyers should calculate whether they genuinely benefit from MG rather than assuming the higher price automatically improves training metrics.
Changing accessories and membership
WHOOP 4.0 bands and battery packs do not fit the 5.0 or MG. Budget for compatible replacement bands and charger accessories. Existing WHOOP members can explore upgrade fees or membership extensions through the official app; account-specific costs and eligibility can differ from buying a fresh boxed retail kit.
Check the correct box contents, activation status and retailer warranty before buying. For someone whose priority is basic running recovery, Peak on 5.0 may be the more rational upgrade.
