Google Pixel 8 vs Pixel 8a Kenya: Camera, Size & Value
Google Pixel 8 vs Pixel 8a Kenya: Camera, Size & Value. Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a are unusually close choices in Kenya: both use Tensor G3, 8GB RAM and a 120Hz OLED display, while their position in Google’s range differs. A-series branding alone does not establish the better purchase. Compare the supplied unit, the current price, display format and cameras before choosing.
Quick buying recommendation
Choose Pixel 8 when you value its main-camera hardware, smaller body and premium standard-Pixel design. Choose Pixel 8a when the condition, warranty or current offer makes its A-series package more attractive. Both deserve consideration for buyers who want a relatively compact Pixel.

Camera hardware matters more than the A-series label
Pixel 8 has a 50MP main camera and 12MP ultrawide; Pixel 8a uses a 64MP main camera and 13MP ultrawide. Those resolution numbers do not prove that the 8a produces better photographs. Sensor size, lens behaviour, autofocus and processing affect the result. Neither model has a dedicated telephoto camera. For products, pets or family photographs, compare original files from the exact camera modes you intend to use. If distant portraits or event zoom are central to your work, compare a Pro Pixel as a separate option.
Display, grip and daily use
Pixel 8 has a 6.2-inch display; Pixel 8a has a 6.1-inch display. Both offer up to 120Hz, but dimensions, bezels and materials affect how they feel in a hand or pocket. Try typing, taking a one-handed photograph and reading a long message before buying. A case changes the final grip, so include it in the decision. The same Tensor generation means you should avoid assuming that the model name alone predicts a dramatic speed difference.
Charging and remaining software support
Both models support wired and wireless charging, with different charging capabilities. Ask which compatible charger is included, if any, and compare the cost of the complete setup. Google places both in its seven-year update group, counted from first US Google Store availability rather than from your purchase. Pixel 8a launched later, but the actual remaining calendar support and unit condition should be considered together. A fresh battery assessment can matter more to daily endurance than a small difference in published capacity.
Inspect the offer before paying
Check the exact model and capacity in Settings, the display, charging port, all cameras, speakers and microphones. Ask how the battery was assessed and whether repairs are documented. For imported phones, confirm the regional model, network unlock status and the mobile services you rely on. A water-resistance rating when new does not establish the current condition of a used or repaired unit.
