Is 2025 S85F still compelling in 2026?
The S85F is a 65-inch OLED with self-illuminating pixels and 4K display. It is most attractive to film watchers, gaming households and buyers who value deep dark-scene contrast. Samsung lists 100Hz native-class refresh and HDMI up to 4K120, making it different from budget 50Hz Crystal UHD sets. Newer S85H should be considered if prices are close, but an S85F discount may provide stronger value than the newest series.
OLED HDR versus Mini LED: choose by room
OLED pixels can individually turn dark, avoiding some backlight blooming effects of LED technology. This doesn’t prove that every OLED is brighter or more accurate than all Mini LED TVs; bright-room conditions and reflective windows can change priorities. Samsung uses OLED HDR and NQ4 AI Gen2 processing. Ask to compare the same dark film, sports broadcast and daytime programme at sensible settings before buying.
Gaming modes: native refresh and HDMI matter
Samsung Africa lists four HDMI ports capable of 4K120, along with VRR and FreeSync Premium support. Your console or PC must output a matching mode and the game itself must support high frame rates. A label such as 120Hz Motion Xcelerator does not guarantee that every game runs at 120fps. HDMI eARC also helps connect an appropriate soundbar.
OLED care and longer-term cost
Self-lit organic pixels can show persistent image retention after extensive static content under unfavourable conditions. Samsung offers panel-care functions, but a buyer displaying CCTV feeds, unmoving office dashboards or the same sports ticker all day should discuss warranty conditions and image-protection habits. Keep ventilation adequate and avoid moving large glass panels without appropriate packing.
Sound, placement and S85H comparison
The S85F supports Dolby Atmos processing and Q-Symphony but its own speakers are listed as 20W two-channel; it is not a full Atmos surround set. The S85H review helps evaluate the newer OLED. Compare overall price, included stand, firmware, regional support and whether your room can physically accommodate 65 inches.
